Description: Basic Purpose:
The Network Architect II position will assist with, or take a leader****p
role in, the achievement of goals of the Network Architecture and Planning
group. The groups goals, from a high level, are to develop and maintain
network services and the core network architecture, to determine
applicability of technology to SAS business goals, to develop and maintain
capacity planning methodologies for network infrastructure, and to analyze
the network infrastructure to find improvements in reliability, services
and cost.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate technology marketplace to determine applicability to business
goals.
Develop test plans for and conduct lab testing of equipment and software
under evaluation.
Develop new network services.
Develop new or improved versions of existing services.
Determine availability characteristics of existing and nascent designs
and topologies.
Stay up-to-date with new and evolving technologies, such as new router,
switch and trans****t platforms, new vendors and vendor products, and new
protocols and technologies.
Attend advanced technology training cl*****.
Maintain Network Architecture do***entation.
Develop capacity planning re****ts, with a focus on efficient
presentation and data visualization.
Work with other groups to help develop financial models for network
products and services.
Develop and execute methods of analyzing the existing network to find
improvements in reliability, services and cost.
Develop and conduct training sessions for other groups.
Create Architecture Proposals, to be approved by senior management and
executed by Network Engineering.
Adhere to SunGards do***ented problem and change management policies.
Participate in Network Engineering on-call rotation, as required.
College Degree preferred but will consider applicants with
equivalent work-related experience with a minimum educational requirement
of a H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent
MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer
Engineering or equivalent experience.
CCIE or JNCIE technical certifications or equivalent experience.
Proven ability to create and maintain complex network designs
Expert working knowledge of IP network design and routing architectures.
Expert working knowledge in the operation of Ethernet LAN switching
protocols and standards including VLANs, VLAN aggregation, Ether Channel,
PVLANs, Spanning Tree & Rapid Spanning Tree, 802.1Q, 802.1e, and CAT 5 and
fiber cable distribution systems.
Expert skills in the configuration of Cisco routers and LAN switches for
IP routing.
Expert knowledge of networking and routing protocols such as TCP/IP,
BGP4, OSPF, RIP, IS-IS, MPLS, VPLS, RSVP, LDP, etc.
Expert working knowledge in trans****t technologies such as TDM, SONET,
DWDM and circuit emulation.
Expert working knowledge in the operation of protocol analyzers, packet
testers, debugging and circuit test equipment.
Expert working knowledge of network security systems, intrusion
detection systems and protocols including, SecurID, TACACS, IPSEC, IKE,
etc.
Knowledge of Unix and Microsoft operating systems.
Basic knowledge of shell scripting and programming languages such as
Perl and Python.
Strong commitment to customer service and effective communication
skills.
Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.
Strong process development skills.
Ability to effectively work in a team environment as well as
independently.
