Oracle DBA
Duties & Responsibilities 1. At this level, this position has a strong
grasp of the physical database design related to business,
application, software projects, and can advise on innovative and
appropriate uses of database and related technology. 2. Is known as an
expert resource for troubleshooting database issues. Involved in
determining short and long term solutions and presenting it to
management, 3. Sets standards and best practices for database group.
4. Keeping database environment up to date with database vendor
releases 5. Performs high-level analysis of database performance and
recommends actions that may impact future policies and procedures. 6.
Evaluation and selection of database sup****t tools. set up product
demos, 7. Participates in on-call production sup****t activities. Is
expected to have the technical knowledge and capability to handle all
problems that may arise. 8. Proactively puts procedures in place to
ensure the security and integrity of the databases. Administer user
privileges and access consistent with cor****ate security guidelines.
9. May supervise and train more junior Production DBA*s in the use of
database technology. Is comfortable and capable of giving technology
presentations to management. 10. Reviews application program SQL calls
and assists in the rewriting or tuning of same. Participate in code
review in optimizing SQL statements. Is fully cognizant of application
project lifecycles. 11. Understands where and how Data Services fits
in to projects. Looks for better methods of guiding application
development project teams to better deploy or use database tools. 12.
Understands advanced physical database design concepts like database
partitioning, denormalization, buffer pool tuning, and index
optimization. Has a solid knowledge of relational theory and
understands the benefits and purposes of *3rd normal form*. 13.
Provide leader****p and mentoring to the team: help resolve technical
issues, lead team to resolutions as necessary. Identify and prioritize
the projects for the team. 14. Communicates effectively on both a
technical and business level with other team members and departments.
Keeps peers informed about changes, improvements, etc. that might
affect them. Must have strong communication skills that foster an
effective process between requirements to deliverables. 15. Performs
other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications The duties and responsibilities described above are the

representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent
applicable work experience. 6+ years experience as a DBA with Oracle
on Unix, Linux including strong Oracle RDBMS knowledge. Strong SQL and
database tuning abilities.
Experience in: Strong database troubleshooting and problem solving
Oracle RAC back-ups and monitoring Data guard (replication using
streams a big plus) Database upgrades Capacity planning Database
security enforcement PL/SQL, Data Architecture, Shell and PERL
Scripting skills
