Job Functions: Engineering - Other - Provides the overall
planning and design of the gas system in assigned area of
responsibility. Provides technical sup****t and training for the
field personnel. Establishes design, maintenance and construction
standards based on codes and industry standards.
Responsibilities: *****ses the integrity of system elements with
regards to corrosion control, pressure, capacity, safety and
reliability. Determines need for projects and budgetary
requirements to reconcile deficiencies in system elements and
prepares multi-year plans. Works with field managers on budgetary
and project matters. Plans the complete design and layout for
the production, transmission and distribution of gas and water
including preparing lists of materials, sketches, drawings,
specifications and equipment necessary for major construction
projects. Prepares proposals and assists in negotiating and
securing bids and selecting contractors for projects. Works
with field personnel on operations, maintenance, customer
applications, corrosion control, code compliance and other
advanced engineering problems relating to gas engineering work.
Works on the establishment and continual review of practices,
procedures, plans and standards for gas to ensure compliance with
codes and industry standards. Participates and conducts
training cl***** for field personnel on the use of engineering
standards, gas system design, operations and maintenance plan,
the use of computer systems and the fundamentals of engineering.
Supervision Given None Technical/Job Skill Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications, and
have demonstrated the following technical or job skills:
Education equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited
college with a degree in engineering or related field. A minimum
of six years progressively responsible experience in gas, or
other engineering work in a utility or equivalent. Demonstrated
ability to plan for and carry out advanced engineering projects
with minimum direction. Demonstrated strong knowledge of
materials, construction standards and practices, state codes,
etc. applicable to gas and water utilities preferred. Working
knowledge of computer operations, specifically load flow analysis
and spreadsheet applications. Public speaking experience in
front of large audiences preferred. Must have a valid drivers
license Physical & Environmental Requirements Physical
requirements include extended hours of driving, sitting for long
periods of time, speaking in front of groups, finger dexterity,
hearing and seeing. Environmental requirements include working
indoors and outdoors Performance Skills Candidates must have
demonstrated the following performance skills: Commitment to
Task Able to take responsibility for actions and outcomes and
persist despite obstacles; be available around the clock in case
of emergency; give long hours to the job; demonstrate
dependability in difficult cir***stances and show a sense of
