LAN ADMINISTRATOR/ CONTRACT TO HIRE/ FEB START

LOCATION: ELKHART INDIANA AREA
TYPE OF COMPANY: MANUFACTURING

 This is a contract to perm position. We are only interested in people
that 
would consider going perm at the end of this 3-6 month contract.
A major company, stable, offers full benefits on a perm basis. Perm rate 
would probably be somewhere in the 50's, plus full benefits. DOE

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general direction, manages LAN performance and maintains LAN
security. 
Installs, maintains and monitors the operation of the local area network. 
Evaluates vendor products in hardware, software and telecommunications 
equipment and recommends purchases consistent with short and long term 
objectives. Recommends and implements LAN policies and standards, ensuring

adherence to security procedures. Trains users on LAN operations and
procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions
.. Installs and maintains local area network, communication hardware,
AS400 
terminals and printers.
.. Keeps abreast of new technology by reading technical manuals and
brochures 
to determine equipment which meets company requirements.
.. Monitors LAN security and network performance.  Reviews re****ts of 
computer and peripheral equipment production, malfunction, and maintenance

to ascertain costs and plan changes with in area.
.. Implements LAN policies, procedures and standards, ensuring conformance

with information systems and objectives.
.. Recommends measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of 
product or services and suggests changes to increase efficiency.
.. Develops and writes procedures for installation, use and solving
problems 
of communications hardware and software.
.. Instructs users in the use of equipment.
.. Performs administrator duties for time clocks, internet and e-mail, and

PC/LAN based software.
.. Ensures all PC/LAN/Communications systems are current and compatible.
.. Ensures backups of entire network data.

Marginal Functions
.. May oversee or assist in the installation of communications hardware.
.. May perform minor equipment repairs.
.. Assists with phone moves, adds and changes by contacting the local 
telephone company.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform

and related equipment.

as they apply to the application and use of computer equipment.
.. Good knowledge of general programming techniques.
.. Ability to establish and maintain production and quality control on 
computer operations.
.. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures.
.. Ability to write re****ts and routine business correspondence.
.. Ability to interpret a variety of complex instructions furnished in 
written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
.. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative

Participates in meetings.
.. Able to write clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and 
grammar; Varies writing style to meet needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
 Bachelor's Degree
 Over 3 years through 5 years of experience.
