ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, DEVELOPMENT
Office of Alumni Affairs and Development

Memorial, the largest university in Atlantic Canada, is a dynamic
institution with teaching and research programs of international
calibre. The university has approximately 60,000 alumni, as well as
17,500 undergraduates and graduate students sup****ted by 900 faculty
members and a staff of over 2,000. Its annual budget exceeds $200
million. With campuses in Newfoundland and Labrador (St. John=92s and
Corner Brook) and in England (Harlow), many im****tant research units,
and a commitment to increasing out-of-province student recruitment and
expanding research capacity, Memorial has major national and
international interests. The position is located in St. John=92s, a city
in a spectacular ocean setting with unique geography, heritage and
lifestyle.

The Op****tunity
Re****ting to the Director of Alumni Affairs and Development, and
working in close collaboration with other members of the senior
management team of the AA&D office, the Associate Director of
Development will be responsible for the leader****p, management and
administration of the Development area.


Working with the Director, the successful candidate will sup****t the
transition of the University into an organization that is
internationally recognized for its innovative fundraising initiatives.
In this capacity, the Associate Director will assist the Director in
planning the strategic direction for the development activities
including university-wide fundraising activities that differentiate
Memorial from other universities and capitalize on Memorial=92s brand
image; oversee benchmarking research; identify, recommend, implement
and evaluate effective fundraising initiatives including annual giving
major gifts, cor****ate and foundation giving and planned giving;
ensure identified targets are met; develop and manage steward****p
programs for donors; work collaboratively with faculties and schools
to create and manage fundraising projects including endowment funds;
assist in building relation****ps with current and prospective donors;
lead, plan organize and direct the day-to-day activities of the
Development team; manage the Development staff, including identifying
goals and objectives, ensuring staff development and creating a level
of engagement by the team; manage the fiscal operation for Development
activities including budget development, monitoring revenues and
expenditures and ensuring adherence to CCRA regulations regarding
gifts; and perform other related duties as required. Regular travel is
required, provincially, nationally, and intenationally.

The Candidate
You are a highly motivated and experienced development professional
with a track record of success in creating and implementing innovative
fundraising initiatives and closing major gifts. With your
undergraduate degree and a minimum of 5-10 years related experience at
progressive levels of responsibility, including supervisory/leader****p
experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience),
your competencies will include an ability to engage and motivate team
members and prospective donors and volunteers; effective partner****p
building skills; exceptional time management, organizational and
analytical skills; sophisticated interpersonal and communication
skills; along with a high level of initiative and creativity.
Knowledge of a university setting would be an asset, as would be CFRE
designation.
