JOB TITLE: Sr. Staff Scientist, Fiber Lasers

DESCRIPTION:
Description:
The successful candidate will design and build Fiber Lasers for Dynamic
Optical
Tags (DOTs) and Optical Combat Identification (OCIDS) free space optical
communication programs. These tactical programs require use of eye safe
lasers
and high sensitivity optical receivers for transmitting and receiving
coded
information from interrogators to optical tags under battlefield
conditions.
The Fiber Lasers Scientist may perform the following tasks, develop high
speed
and high power fiber laser for application in the DOTS program. Develop a
specification for the fiber laser based on the system requirements.
Conduct
device modeling to optimize laser design based on the requirements.
Determine
all parameters most suitable for high efficiency wall plug laser design.
Characterize and ruggedize the device for shock and temperature
environments.
Work with packaging engineers to successfully implement technology for
production. Conduct laboratory work along with office work.
Education & Experience Required:
US Citizen****p & the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
PhD or MS in Electrical engineering or Physics with emphasis in Lasers and
Optics. Ph.D degree with 5 years of related experience and MS degree with
7
years industrial experience in industrial fiber laser development
experience
with 10 years in the electro-optic industry. Experience in the modeling of
fiber laser design to optimize optical efficiency, reduce ASE, package
size and
minimize power draw. Knowledge of fiber gratings, TEC cooled Fabry P*****
and/or
DFB lasers, fiber circulators, isolators, coupling of pump laser into
Erbium
Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA). Hands-on fiber splicing is a plus.
