JOB TITLE: Sr.Principal Systems Scientist/Engineer

DESCRIPTION:
Description:
The candidate will lead electro-optical system design for Dynamic Optical
Tags
(DOTs) and Optical Combat Identification (OCIDS) free space optical
communication programs. These tactical programs require use of eye safe
fiber
lasers and high sensitivity optical receivers for transmitting and
receiving
coded information from interrogators to optical tags under battlefield
conditions. Specific tasks may include, Develop optical link models
including
characteristics of laser transmitters, optical receivers, atmospheric
losses,
turbulence beam wander, fades, scattering losses, etc. Develop system
dynamic
range requirements. Create system architecture. Develop system
requirements for
a stabilized handheld laser interrogator. Develop system requirements for
optical tags. Develop system requirements for a gimballed airborne
interrogator. Lead hardware and software engineers and subcontractors in
the
development of each subsystem. Coordinate fabrication of electro-optic
test,
alignment, and device characterization fixtures. Participate in system
tests,
both in the lab and in the field. Analyze results of lab and field tests
and
recommend strategies for system improvement. Prepare and conduct design
reviews. Interact with government customers. Write white papers,
proposals,
etc. The candidate should also be familiar with quantum well modulators,
high
speed converging algorithms such as stochastic parallel gradient descent
(SPGD), coding and decoding approaches with forward error correction
(FEC),
check sum, and synchronization codes. Must be able to work in the
electro-optics lab. Must be able to perform well under cost and schedule
constraints. Must work well within our multi-disciplined engineering team
with
coworkers of varied skills and experience. Some travel is
required.
Education & Experience Required:
US Citizen****p & the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
PhD in Electrical or Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field plus 7
years of experience, or MS with 10 years of experience. Working knowledge
of
Microsoft Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Familiarity with MATLAB and
DOORS
desired. Familiarity with general-purpose lab equipment (scopes, signal
generators, optical measurement instruments, etc.)
