Software QA Engineer
CARLSBAD, CA

Salary: $65,000 - 80,000 / Annually

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Position Objective 
This is a hands-on SQA position that will be responsible for the 
testing of all Web applications including eCommerce and Content 
Management for Invitrogen. Tasks will include but are not limited 
to test planning, manual testing, test automation, test 
environment setup, defect logging/verification, and reviews of 
requirements and use cases.

Essential Functions
	Create and follow functionality test plans using effective 
software engineering and QA practices.
	Perform black-box and white-box testing, provide feedback on 
usability, re****t bugs relating to the application, verify bug 
fixes provided by developers, and take appropriate action based 
on the correctness of the bug fixes.
	Perform regression testing on Web applications, eCommerce 
systems, and the content sections of the Web when new versions of 
third-party software become available. 
	Create and/or run automated test scripts that follow OOP 
principles and exhibit a high-level of reuse.
	Actively participate and contribute to defining test scope, 
coverage, and overall strategy.
	Ensure products meet or exceed the specified standards and 
end-user requirements.
	May be required to perform other related duties as required 
and/or assigned.

Education:
Requires a bachelor's degree in IT, Marketing, Business, or other 
related field.  Formal education in biology, chemistry, or other 
scientific discipline is preferred.

Experience:
	Requires a minimum of 3-4 years experience with Software Quality 
Assurance, testing methodologies, and commercial software 
development processes. Specific experience testing Web/eCommerce 
applications is a plus.
	Requires a minimum 3 years of experience in a computer/technical 
field or equivalent knowledge.  
	Experience with authoring and maintaining test plans and test 
cases used for verifying software quality.
	Experience with various test methods including GUI based system 
testing, performance testing, acceptance testing, regression 
testing, negative testing, etc.
	Experience with automated testing software packages (Mercury 
QuickTestPro, Seapine QA Wizard, etc) is strongly desired.  
	Strong PC troubleshooting, problem-solving, and repair skills 
are a definite plus.  
	Strong communication skills and attention to detail are 
essential, as is the ability to quickly learn new applications 
and technologies. 
	Candidate should also be confident in his/her ability to 
articulate and do***ent test-findings in a centralized bug 
database for all development/management teams to review.
	Candidate should be comfortable working in Windows 98/NT/2000/XP 
and MAC and have been exposed to a variety of desktop 
applications and Internet-related technologies.  
	Candidate must have thorough knowledge of the MS Office suite of 
products and a strong working knowledge of Internet browsers, 
(Netscape, Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla, etc).
	Experience with one or more of the following technologies and 
applications is a plus: programming (Visual Basic, C++, 
ColdFusion, Java J2EE), relational databases (SQL Server, 
Oracle), web design (HTML, DHTML, JavaScript), networking (NT, 
TCP/IP)
	Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer 
service skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment 
required.

frequent interaction with vendors.

Working Conditions:
Works in an office environment.  Occasional travel may be 
required.
