Position: Director, Specialized Function

Position Purpose:
The Director, Specialized Function is accountable for directing a
specialized unit with varied activities and objectives. Partners with
senior
executive leader****p to develop short and long term program/services in
alignment with Global Operations business plans. Leads key initiatives
within area of expertise providing consultation and advice to ensure
effective and efficient implementation of programs and services.
Key Accountabilities:
Develop, recommend for executive approval, and implement the strategic
framework, direction, policies and high-level tactics that are rapidly
evolving/changing with significant organizational impact.
a.. *****s Global Operations current and future business needs and
op****tunities relative to external industry/regulatory considerations and
conceptualize the means to get from "here" to "there". Synchronize the
objectives, resources and timing of several inter-related programs and
activities.
b.. Ensure that related issue, organizational risks and op****tunities
are
identified and raised for consideration in the formulation and revision of
policy and strategy.
c.. Determine the best approach to operationalizing complex concepts
within Global Operations business activities and culture and provide
authoritative recommendations based on forecasts of the alternatives and
associated risks.
d.. Review, refine and/or develop programs or services related to the
area
of specialization.
e.. Refine an operating structure within the context of broad
organizational directions. Develop work plans, establish objectives,
deadlines, and processes.
f.. Ensure a coherent and comprehensive approach to design and
implementation of initiatives across business areas to increase efficiency
and minimize cost. Balance program initiatives with service demands to
ensure cost containment.
g.. Monitor the performance of cor****ate strategies, policies, programs,
to ensure the fulfillment of strategic objectives and regulatory
requirements. Recommend changes to programs, products or services as
needed.
h.. Provide authoritative analysis, interpretation and opinion to
sup****t
and guide senior and executive management and client groups, ensuring an
understanding and acceptance of issues and influence the direction and
nature of cor****ate policy.
i.. Contribute to the development of concepts, products and services
provided by the functional area.
j.. Ensure that clients are well informed of the function's strategic
direction and operation.
k.. Prepare and present re****ts on significant trends.
l.. Develop and/or sup****t high-level recommendations, approaches and
solutions internally.
m.. Lead and contribute to the development of the professional
capabilities of specialized team:
n.. Provide advice and guidance on complex conceptual problems.
o.. Develop work plans (assignments or projects) within the in***bent's
area of expertise, set goals
and timeframes, and monitor progress.
p.. Provide regular feedback to ensure optimal performance.
q.. Provide motivation, coaching, training and developmental
op****tunities
to ensure employees are
capable of performing at or developing to the necessary professional
standards. This includes
providing specialized counsel to staff in the resolution of complex
issues.
r.. Ensure staffing, orientation and promotions are conducted
effectively
and professionally.
s.. Provide regular formal (TEAM) and informal feedback to ensure
performance appraisals and the
identification of developmental needs are fair, accurate and effectively
communicated.
t.. Deal with serious disciplinary problems and recommend hiring for own
staff. Likely authorizes
the hiring of staff for lower level managers.
Requirements:
u.. Comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge in the specialized
area of responsibility, including principles, practices, processes,
procedures, products and services.
v.. Developed knowledge of the principles and application of
organizational change/effectiveness models.
w.. Director will engage in planning with a wide organizational
perspective that requires coordination, creativity and a strategic
orientation.
x.. Developed project planning, management and scheduling skills
sufficient to prioritize projects and meet project deadlines.
y.. Detailed working knowledge of multiple external/industry activities
within their area of specialization sufficient to identify, analyze and
resolve complex conceptual issues; maintain effective participation in
relevant industry associations and government lobbying efforts.
z.. Well-developed interactive skills sufficient to provide detailed
explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and
ideas, related to complex technical and conceptual issues.
aa.. Well-developed writing skills sufficient to creatively and
precisely
articulate ideas that involve interpretation, analysis and *****sment.
ab.. Well-developed management/leader****p skills sufficient to
lead/motivate staff and be able to function within a dynamic working
environment involving specialists.
ac.. Compliance with all regulatory training and ensure these programs
and
policies are applied consistently across the business. The in***bent is

WORKING CONDITIONS
o Normal office environment (desks, PC, cubicles, etc.)
o Working with clients on the phone which requires the use of a headset
