Database Administrator I

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

JOB KNOWLEDGE

Bachelor=92s degree in computer science or related field or a proven
record of success in maintenance of database structures and
procedures.

Three years experience working with database management systems and
relational database models.

Working knowledge of relational database concepts and theory.

Prior experience in database administration using CA-Datacom/DB
database and dictionary utility programs is desirable.

Working knowledge of 370 assembler language is desirable.

Working knowledge of CICS command level programming facilities and
methods.

Use Job Control Language (JCL) and MVS operating system utility
facilities.

Use ROSCOE or a comparable software system.

Proficiency with standard functions within electronic applications
such as MS Office (e.g., word processing, electronic spreadsheets) and
e-mail.

Proficiency with computers (PCs and/or MACs) to include desktop
management, file management and operations, and working in a network
environment.

Exceptions to these requirements will be considered based on exemplary
skills, training, and record of success.

PRODUCTS/OUTCOMES

Requires responsibility for the database structures, the job
submission system, and other related systems.

Plan and carry out the definition, development, enhancement,
maintenance, and implementation of complex computer systems.

Identify and define data elements within-existing data structures.

Define and build relational data structure specifications using
Computer Associates SQL, Data Dictionary, and Dataquery utility
programs.

Maintain the Job Submission System (JESL20).

Effectively maintain system files.

Write programs in the COBOL programming language.

Read, interpret, and write technical material and user
specifications.

Write database requests using Computer Associates Structured Query
Language (SQL).

Write technical specifications, training material, and user
do***entation.

Ensure that iTCCS rules for user interface specifications are enforced
in area assigned.

Develop training materials and assist technical writers with preparing
and maintaining user manuals.

Implement changes to or oversee the implementation of changes to
existing systems caused by statutory changes or new ideas submitted by
users.

Design and write programs for users special requests.

Assist clients and assigned staff in problem determination and
determining the correct action to be taken to resolve the problem.

Coordinate database implementation, monitoring and tuning with the
Database Administrator III.

Coordinate development of a test environment and procedures for
migration to production environment.

Define and maintain efficient database structures and integrity rules
of iTCCS software applications for the storage and re****ting of data
required by school districts.

Develop software/procedures related to users creating, populating,
maintaining, and using databases.

Provide technical assistance and training to regional consultants and
school district database coordinators.

Provide for ongoing review and maintenance of database structures to
ensure efficiency and client needs are met.

Review and revise systems to meet state and federal statutory
changes.

Monitor performance of RDBMS to ensure the most efficient usage and
take action where appropriate to ensure same.

Produce special annual backups of final Student Attendance for the
school year and Move To Grade Re****ting processing.

As required, backup user data, restore, and/or recover databases to a
stable point.

In the absence of the Database Administrator III, this person will
assume responsibility for all databases.

Produce work according to established procedures under general
directions.

May supervise staff in a single project area.
